An Operational Maintainer is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of rail freight wagons, or passenger cars.
The functionality and safety of the wagon is ensured by regular inspections and maintenance where required. A regular routine might include inspections of air brake components, handbrakes, wheels and axles, wagon loads and ensuring that the train meets safety requirements.
An Operational Maintainer is expected to have experience in condition monitoring and reporting/field maintenance projects as well as inspections and minor maintenance. A Trade Certificate-Fitter Welder qualification is also a common requirement.
