RAIL TRANSPORT
The Rail Transport industry in Western Australia provides a large and diverse group of career opportunities. There are two sectors to the Rail Transport industry - Rail Infrastructure and Rail Operations. Both sectors involve the passenger/freight transport area and the heavy haulage area.
Recent statistics show that in the period from July 2008 to December 2008, the total kilometres travelled in Western Australia by Freight and Passenger trains was 16.555 million kilometres (this is almost the same distance as travelling to and from the moon 21 times!!). The freight trains travelled a total of 8.420 million kilometres while the passenger trains travelled a total of 8.135 million kilometres.
