Pathways Program - Transport and Logistics
Background
The transport and logistics (T&L) industry pathway program was created as a pilot project to give students from education support units in secondary schools more career development opportunities and options for employment, and to introduce young people into an industry that is particularly short of young workers. The program involved students from the education support units of a number of schools in the Fremantle Peel Region, but is also suitable for mainstream students who may seek employment or take up a school based or industry traineeship.
What are we trying to achieve?
Using entry-level training and workplace experience, the Transport and Logistics (T&L) Pathways Program aims to offer senior school students the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions that support effective career development for the T&L industry.
Through a partnership between schools, employers and a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), students work towards Certificate I in Transport & Logistics (Pathways) over a semester. The program involves both classroom instruction and assessment in the workplace by the RTO. The experience offers participating students the opportunity to gain employment; or commence a school based traineeship in the transport and logistics industry.
